Accessible Parking Laws in Arkansas
May 27, 2020
At the Arkansas Spinal Cord Commission, one of our primary goals is to "advocate for the needs of people with spinal cord disabilities." As such, we network with other agencies in order to do just that. One of those agencies is the Governor’s Commission on People with Disabilities (GCPD).
We understand that many of our clients already know the law, but it can be beneficial to have access to the latest info in order to share and inform others who may need additional education on these matters.
Attached here is latest brochure on the Van Accessible Parking Act (provided by GCPD). In very brief summation, the striped spaces are for use by individuals requiring additional space to enter/exit their vehicle (via ramp for example).
Also of note, Arkansas law states that "Any law enforcement officer in this state may enter upon the parking space, parking lot, or parking facility of any private [or public] agency in this state for the purpose of enforcing the provisions of this subchapter with respect to accessible parking." A.C.A. § 27-15-306 (2018) [PDF]
If you suspect misuse of an accessible parking space, you can report it online (link below) or by phone (1-866-NOPARK5) through the Department of Finance & Administration.
